Hi guys!

Ever since the new SafeWallet for Android was released two weeks ago we've been getting plenty of requests from users asking for an option to import their wallet from SPB Wallet.

To be honest, and this probably comes after a few very frustrating nights..., SPB team really worked hard not to allow users to leave their application. SPB Wallet simply doesn't provide any form of decent export from their application - hence not allowing anyone else to read their wallet data. Personally I think this isn't fair for users - you shouldn't force users to use one application by not allowing them to take their information elsewhere.

Since they don't offer any decent export option, you won't find any import from SPB Wallet anywhere. This became very frustrating for us since a lot of users were asking for the option to import their data from SPB Wallet to SafeWallet, especially with the new Android client release.

After we understood that there is no option to export information out of SPB Wallet in any form or way - we decided it is time to parse their wallet file format. After two long nights we figured out their encryption process and SafeWallet is now the only application capable of importing SPB Wallet files :clap1: Simply by reading their format and bringing over the full wallet data over to SafeWallet.

The new SafeWallet import from SPB Wallet should maintain all of your SPB Wallet data. This include folders structure (including depth levels), properly selecting corresponding icons automatically for your icons and of course reading your entire card data and field types!

Please notice that this is still not an official release, but a first public beta version of the upcoming SafeWallet v2.0.2 release. As part of this beta testing we would love to get feedback from users who used SPB Wallet in the past and can try the new import feature and let us know whether your wallet was imported nicely to SafeWallet :)

The process might still require some refining, but the actual import should work nicely.

Click here to download SafeWallet 2.0.2 Beta 2

To use the new import, launch SafeWallet -> File -> Import Wallet, and select the SPB Wallet option.

Comment 1: We did not hack into SPB Wallet files - we parsed their encryption process and can now open their files. The user is still asked for his password to complete the import (hence we open the file in the same way they do).

Would love to get feedback from users about the new import feature :)

Have a great day! -b1-

Thanks! :) I really hope this will work - although this is an early beta build, so good chances we might still need to do some work on the import code. Waiting for your feedback B)

Not working. I get a new wallet with nothing in it. No error message but no data either. Also, it killed the SPB Wallet. I can no longer find it or open it with the program. :(

The SPB Wallet file should remain in the same place on your hard drive. Can you locate see it in the same place?

Did you had SPB Wallet running at the same time you tried to run the import with SafeWallet? (it should be closed to prevent any access violation to the file - I will add a notice about this in the application itself).

If you have some time to run online test, ping me on MSN and I'll quickly prepare some log builds for you, so I can easily see at what stage the import is crashing for you and get this fixed right away :) I'm now online on MSN Messenger B)

Puff -b2- Did you enter your SPB Wallet password in the first stages of the Import Wizard? (Notice that this needs to be the same password that opens your SPB Wallet file, not SafeWallet's).

If you see weird characters on the result imported wallet, one of the things that can cause this is if you didn't enter the SPB Wallet password correctly as part of the import wizard process. Can you give this a second try and verify the SPB Wallet password is entered on the second import stage. Does this happen to help by any chance?

Thanks! :)

I'm guessing you got the correct wallet structure and cards, but only the content itself is broken, right?

Another quick question - what version of SPB Wallet are you using? We only tested the import against a specific version, so we might need to check this against different versions too.

Great news!!! :clap1: Thanks for posting back with the feedback!

I wonder whether the trouble you had at first was related to a wrong password entered, or, whether it will only work after the wallet file is opened with the latest SPB Wallet version. We only tested with the latest version, so maybe users should first save their wallet file using the latest SPB Wallet version and only then complete the import for this to work properly. I will investigate this direction some more.

Sorry. Didn't have much time to post. I've got most of the issues sorted out. I did have an older version of SPB Wallet so I am downloading and will let you know what happens.

Amit-

Great job!

I just imported my large Spb Wallet file in the new SafeWallet beta and it seemed to work well.

One question/suggestion: the alphabetical sort order is all messed up in my new wallet file.

I can use the search feature to find my card, but sometimes I forget the actual name of the card and scanning alphabetically is easier for me.

Is it possible to sort the list of cards now? (I didn't think so and couldn't find such an option.) If not, can this be added for those of us with lots of cards?

Thanks.

Will keep testing and looking at the various cards.

-- Andrew

UPDATE: After closing and reopening the newly imported wallet, the sort order is fine. Disregard my prior comment about that.
Again, thanks Amit. Very glad to have this capability and think lots of others will, too.
I may just have to let the other stranded users on the Spb Wallet forums know about your excellent update. ;)
